How to get your home interior ready for the festive season - our top 5 tips!
No matter how big or small your celebrations, there’s no denying the happiness it can bring to your home. Whether it’s just a few decorations and lights, or going all out to really transform every room, as the temperature drops there are lots of ways to make your home feel warm and cosy. Take a look at tips below and see how to get your home interior ready for the festive season.
1 - Keep it simple
It would be nice to change up your decorations every year, but due to the cost and time you need to spend shopping around, it’s usually not a realistic option. The key to great looking rooms is not to over-decorate and to keep it simple, adding decorations that have a similar colour. A smart way to build up your decoration collection is to buy little-by-little every year, always making sure they match your existing décor.
2 - Decorate with fairy lights and candles
Creating the perfect festive feeling is all about feeling warm and cosy while the temperature outside is at its lowest. Lights from outside always look great, but there are plenty of other places inside and around the home you can place them to add a little more fun and enjoyment. Wrap them around door frames, along bannisters and drape them over frames and mantle pieces. You can also do the same in the porch and patio areas, and the great thing is fairly lights are reasonably cheap to buy. Candles are another great addition that bring a sense of warmth and tranquillity, especially in the evening when things are a little quieter around the house.
3 - Make the most of small spaces
For anyone that lives in a flat or apartment you may be a little more constricted on what you can do in terms of decoration. But that doesn’t mean you have to miss out, as you can make use of window sills, tables and shelving to introduce some festive cheer. Stringing fairy lights around the place can instantly make it feel a little more special. You really don’t need a lot of space to let your home enjoy the seasonal vibes.
4 - Bring in the smell of festivity
Festive celebrations evoke a lot of memories of our childhood and one of the easiest and most powerful ways to bring it to life is to make your home smell like the festive season. You can do things like simmering homemade potpourri (including things like cranberries, tangerines, cinnamon sticks, cloves, ginger and fresh pine) which will add another layer of cosiness. Of course, you may have a specific smell that reminds you of your own celebrations, so whatever that may be, feel free to bring that into the home over the holidays.
5 - Use seasonal tableware
Take a look at your dishes and cutlery to see if you have any that fit the seasonal theme. If not, discount stores often have name-brand china and fun winter designs to spruce up the dining table. This is something you can add to year-on-year, including everything from mugs to salad dishes, until you have a full set ready to go. It brings some fun and enjoyment to the dining table and lots of eye-catching colours. And it doesn’t just have to be for the big meal – bring the cutlery out across the holidays to really make the most of the look.
