An interior designers New Year’s resolutions for every home

The start of a new year is the perfect time to take a look at things from a fresh perspective and to see what interior design improvements you can make around the home. The changes you make don’t have to be huge, but more importantly, create a sense of comfort and relaxation that only a personal space can provide. To give you some inspiration, take a look at our interior designers New Year’s resolutions for every home.

Go minimal

Minimalism doesn’t have to mean stripping everything down to the barest of essentials. However, the core principles of the idea lie in removing clutter and obstructions to create a more serene and comfortable environment to spend time in. Try to keep spaces as open and airy as possible, so you have good light transmission and pathways around the room that enable you to manoeuvre with ease.

Trust your intuition

It’s never a bad idea to ignore the little voice inside your head that instinctively tells you something ‘feels’ good or bad. You can also apply this to the decisions you make about interior design in your home. Even if you have your heart set on a piece of furniture or a particular colour – if it doesn’t really work in the space, try not to force it, as you’ll likely regret it later on. You can still take some risks and go outside of your comfort zone to try something new, and 9 times out of 10 you’ll very quickly know if you have made the right decision or not.

Look for inspiration

Finding inspiration couldn’t be easier in today’s digital world, and you don’t have to just rely on professionals to tell you what looks good. There’s tons of ideas on platforms like Pinterest and Instagram, and lots of creative bloggers passionate about the subject with their own websites. At the same time, that doesn’t mean the traditional routes are not just as useful, with design magazines and professionals on social media platforms available to get some ideas flowing. Try out some new avenues of inspiration in the New Year to take you out of your comfort zone and see what exciting new ground you can cover.

See what sustainability has to offer

Use of sustainable materials is becoming ever more essential in today’s world, and the design world is responding in kind, and it will remain centre stage in the design sector for the foreseeable future. Reclaimed materials in particular are proving to be popular, that forge together old and new to create something fresh and engaging. Taking some time to look at more sustainable design options is a great way to start 2022 and to rethink the way you engage with the wider world.

Take your time

Whether you have moved to a new home, are renovating an existing space, or just adding one or two pieces to a room, try to avoid rushing your selections. This is especially true when you have a blank canvas to work with, as it can be tempting to just start filling it up with items. But the key is to invest in things that will make the space comfortable and personable, which requires a bit of thought beforehand. It also means there is less chance you will make a costly mistake that you might regret down the line.

Make your bedroom a true haven

Even though we spend between 7-8 hours in the bedroom almost every day of our lives, when it comes to renovation and decorating, it’s usually one of the last rooms to receive the love and attention it deserves. The bedroom is the first and last place you see every day, so why not turn it into a true haven of comfort and relaxation? After all, the better quality of sleep you enjoy, the more you can get out of your day. Whether it’s indulging in luxury sheets, upgrading your pillows or adding warmer lighting, you’ll enjoy the benefits for a long time to come.
